Waterlight – A Colombian Startup’s Solution to Provide Electricity for Remote Communities

Story by Antonia Schaefer

A Colombian renewable energy startup has come up with a lamp that is powered by filling it up with saltwater. E-Dina, based in Bucaramanga, thought that this could especially help the Wayuu people in the remote northern regions of the country, as they are surrounded by the ocean, without much access to electricity to give them light at night. We spent several days in La Guajira seeing the local settlements and meeting the Wayuu people, as well as meeting with the lead engineer for the project.
