Lou Harris and the Black Surfing Association – Rockaway Beach, New York City
As summer comes to a close, I’d like to give a huge shoutout to Lou Harris who started the Black Surfing Association in Rockaway, New York City. He goes out three to five mornings per week to give free surf lessons to anyone who wants to show up. By the end of the summer, most of them are paddling around, catching waves, and standing up on their own. I volunteered with him as often as I could, and found myself being more stoked than after many of my own surf sessions.
